2018 Home Goals – Customize It!

Happy New Year!   Have you lost your 15 lbs and become your best self?  As we all know, with the New Year comes resolutions –  both realistic and unrealistic.   After all, it’s a clean slate.  It’s a do-over and a chance to fix mistakes. You can fix yourself or fix-up your home.  You can complete tasks and set new goals.  You get the idea.  So, my first blog of 2018 is a series around window coverings.  What does this have to do with New Year’s resolutions?   Well, whether you are moving into a new home or you have lived in your home for 15 years, take a look at your windows.  They may be bare or they may be stuck in the 80’s.  They may have ornate tassels in green, gold and red and if so, read on!  Regardless, having a goal of including window coverings or updating what is in place today might be a great goal for 2018.

From my experience, I think that window coverings are one of the most neglected design elements of a home, second to installing beautiful lighting fixtures.  Take a look around your home right now. Do you have windows with textile treatments, blinds or woven shades?  My guess is that many of you reading this blog right now don’t have anything on your windows, except possibly blinds for privacy.

By writing this blog series, I hope to convey that installing custom window treatments is one of the best ways to get the biggest bang for your buck.  The first thing to understand is that there is a difference between privacy window coverings and finished window treatments.   Some window coverings are dual purpose and some take on a role of only privacy. When windows are included in the overall design plan of a space, this will be one of the main elements of making a room feel truly custom designed.   It adds an instant warmth to your space and can even make your ceilings feel taller.

Custom window treatments are one of the trade secrets of interior designers.  This is how we make your decorating budget pay off in a big way, as nothing makes a room look more polished and finished than tailored window treatments.  Hard to believe?  The proof is in the pictures!  See below and send me a comment on what you think!  My blog next week will discuss sizing, quality, scale, and why custom window treatments make more sense than generic store bought window treatments or even worse, bare windows.

Stay tuned for exciting news from Piece + Palette!  We are planning to make a big splash in the world of window treatments.  And as usual, they will be custom and full of style and personality!

Happy Designing ~
